Greek giants Panathinaikos have slapped in an offer to sign Ghana midfielder Michael Essien in the summer.

The 32-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the current season where his contract with AC Milan expires.

Panathinaikos however look to sign for former Chelsea star with an offer of 1m Euros per annum contract.

Essien currently receives double that at Milan but his contract with the Rossoneri will not be renewed.

There are talks of a possible move to the MLS but Essien has always preferred to stay in Europe.

Besiktas and clubs from England have also been reported to be interested in signing the Ghanaian.

But Panathinaikos hope to secure his services with the 1m Euro offer plus other bonuses and benefits to sway Essien into moving to Greece.

The former Olympique Lyon man had a loan stint at Real Madrid before finally leaving Chelsea in January 2013.
