Norwegian striker Kristian Opseth was impressed with Adelaide United's 5-0 friendly win over Adelaide Raiders.

Opseth was officially signed by the Reds on Wednesday, having watched them chalk up the pre-season victory at Taperoo Reserve.

He is the first Norwegian player to join an A-League club, and is looking forward to the challenge.

Adelaide have signed him on a one-year deal and will be hoping he can maintain his impressive scoring rate - he has managed 98 goals in 181 career matches.

I'm mainly a box player in and around the box, trying to get into positions to score the goals.

Kristian Opseth

Though his most recent club was Erzurumspor in Turkey, where he made 12 appearances, the rest of his career has been in Norway.

He netted 18 goals in 54 games for Sogndal and had a two-year stint with Bodo/Glimt where he managed 38 goals in 60 matches.

That included a return of 28 in 30 games in 2017 when he finished as the top scorer in the Norwegian First Division.

Opseth said of the Reds' performance against the Raiders: "I watched the game and I was amazed by the intensity of the game. It was only the second game of the pre-season and to have that kind of intensity I've never seen that before."

Speaking of his key attributes, the 29-year-old said: "I'm mainly a box player in and around the box, trying to get into positions to score the goals. I would say that's my biggest strength as well to be in the right places and to put the ball in and I have a good left foot as well."

The forward said of the A-League: "It's an improving league I feel and it just sounded right to me and was a chance I felt was a good one for me right now and I'm really looking forward to get started."

Adelaide United are 12/1 to win the A-League Grand Final. The Reds are 9/1 to win the FFA Cup.
