Senegal have been dealt a huge blow with Southampton’s boss Ronald Koeman confirming that attacking midfielder Sadio Mané has been ruled out for a minimum of four weeks with a calf injury.

The 22-year old sustained the injury in his side’s 2-0 win over Arsenal at St Mary’s on New Year’s Day, limping off the pitch just before the break.

“Sadio has an injured calf muscle, it will be four to six weeks,” Koeman said following their FA Cup third round 1-1 draw against Ipswich on Sunday.

“Senegal maybe will call him up and see the player, but he will not play in the African Cup of Nations,” he added.

The former Red Bull Salzburg’s player scored 5 goals for the Saints this season in the Premier League.

The Teranga Lions will kick off their AFCON campaign against Ghana in Mongomo on January 19, before facing South Africa and Algeria.
