RSC Anderlecht of Belgium attacker, Henry Onyekuru has given thanks to God for making it possible for him to get his first official invitation to the Super Eagles, and believes he is blessed to get the opportunity.

Though the former KAS Eupen of Belgium star had previously been invited to the Eagles, that call-up came for international friendlies with Corsica and Togo, hence the youngster’s joy, and Onyekuru says he is happy to final get the chance to make his mark in a competitive match.

The 19-year-old Onyekuru was first invited by Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr after he impressed with Eupen the previous season, in which he scored 24 goals in all competitions.

However, he was not in the original 25-man roster released by Rohr for the friendly games and only got a late invitation to replace injured Olarewaju Kayode, who was then in top form with Austria Wien.

That has since changed dramatically and Onyekuru, who is on loan at Anderlecht from Everton of England, who signed him from Eupen in the summer, now has an authentic call-up to flaunt.

Onyekuru is now eagerly looking forward to getting a role in Friday’s final World Cup qualifier against Algeria, which he says would be another opportunity from God.

The deft and swift winger-cum-attacker, who also courted interest from Arsenal in the summer transfer window, took to Twitter to reveal his thoughts ahead of Friday’s game in Constantine, Algeria, in which he pledged that the Eagles will give their best to make Nigerians proud.

Onyekuru tweeted: “My first full international call up for the National Team! God is great! Blessed to be able to share this moment with these guys and we will do our best to make proud!”
