Cagliari Calcio is pleased to announce that it has acquired the right to sports performance of Martín Cáceres: the Uruguayan footballer has signed a contract that will bind him to the Rossoblu Club until 30 June 2022. Born in Montevideo on 7 April 1987, he began his career among professionals in Defensor Sporting, the team of his hometown, in which he played from 2005 to 2007. At the age of twenty he moved to Spain to initially wear the jersey of Recreativo Huelva (36 matches and 3 goals) and then, in the following season, that of Barcelona: here he will take the field 23 times, giving his contribution to the conquest of the "treble", Champions League, Liga and King's Cup.
The following year he joined Juventus (21 games and 1 goal), only to return after a championship in Spain to Sevilla: in Andalusia he collected 55 games and 2 goals in a season and a half. In January 2012 he chooses Turin again: in his second experience with the bianconeri he will win 5 scudetti in a row (from 2012 to 2016), 2 Italian Cups (2015 and 2016) and 3 Super Cups (2012, 2013, 2015). After a brief spell in the Premiere League in Southampton, he returns to Serie A. He starts the 2017-18 season with Verona (15 matches and 3 goals), in January 2018 he moves to Lazio: he will play with the Biancocelesti until January 2019, collecting 18 competitions and 1 network; then Juventus again, where he will win his sixth Italian Champion title. In the summer of 2019 the transfer to Fiorentina: in two seasons he scored 61 games and 4 goals.
A cornerstone of the Uruguayan national team, he won the 2011 edition of the America's Cup and took part in the last three World Cups (2010, 2014, 2018): with the Celeste he boasts a total of 107 matches and 4 goals. Authentic defensive wild card, Cáceres can play both a 3 and a 4 rearguard, central or lateral, also used as a winger in a 5-way midline. In the containment phase, he asserts his solidity and stubbornness in man marking; running and technical qualities allow him to be particularly valuable even in the push phase, with frequent crosses and assists for his teammates. Thanks to his ability to enter, to the precise shot, he knows how to be ready for the appointment with the goal: even with his head, taking advantage of good elevation and sense of position.
