NWSL: Toni Payne eager for Everton debut
Toni Payne is set to begin an exciting new chapter in her career as she prepares for her competitive debut with Everton Ladies, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.
After leaving Spanish club Sevilla, where she spent six years, Payne joined Everton on a free transfer in June and is now eager to make her mark in the Women's Super League.
During her time at Sevilla, the 29-year-old Super Falcons player scored 30 goals in 169 appearances, showcasing her versatility on the field. Payne made her debut for Everton in a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in August and later appeared in the team’s final warm-up match against Liverpool.
Speaking on the Merseyside pre-season derby, Payne said: "Even though it was a friendly, it still felt really good, really competitive and I could feel a lot of passion during the game."
As the new season kicks off, Everton will face Brighton & Hove Albion in their opening fixture. Payne expressed her excitement about the season, stating, “I’m always ready for the season to start! Now that it’s coming this weekend, I’m super excited,” she told the club.
