NSC appoint Yusuf Ali as CEO of Elite Athletes Development Board
The National Sports Commission (NSC), under the leadership of Shehu Dikko, has named Yusuf Ali the Chief Executive Officer of the newly established Elite Athletes Development Board, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
This 13-member committee is tasked with advancing Nigeria's success in international sports through scientific and professional management strategies.
Prominent members of the committee include Prof. Ken Anugweje, who will serve as an Adviser and Member, along with Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa, Salihu Abubakar, Aku Aghazu, Tunde Adelakun, and Prof. Sadiq Abdulahi.
Former Olympian Mary Onyali, Hauwa Kulu Akinyemi, Sunday Odebode, Olalekan Alabi, and Bamiduro Olumide, who will act as Secretary, were also appointed.
A statement released on Tuesday emphasized the members' selection based on their expertise and extensive experience. The initiative aims to create a robust and scientifically-driven system for athletes' welfare and training grants, ensuring Nigeria’s sustained success in global sports competitions.
“This is one of the key innovations under the leadership of Mallam Shehu Dikko, designed to professionally manage athletes' welfare and training grants moving forward,” the statement read.
The NSC highlighted that the board will play a critical role in nurturing and supporting potential athletes, establishing a sustainable talent development system, and preparing Nigeria's athletes for global competition.
The Elite Athletes Development Board forms part of the broader Renewed Hope Initiative for the Nigerian Sports Economy, a strategic plan aimed at transforming sports development and elevating Nigeria’s international standing in athletics.
