NPFL: Sunshine Stars edge Rivers United to renew survival hope
Sunshine Stars of edged Rivers United by a goal to nil in the Nigeria Premier Football League rescheduled matchday 27 tie played at the Akure Township Stadium on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Ibrahim Yusuf's second half goal was all the Akure Gunners needed to take maximum points in the crucial game for their battle for relegation.
After a first half dominated by the hosts, there was nothing to choose between the two sides after 45 minutes which saw Sunshine with 5 shots on target against River's 1.
The second half came alive with the home side taking the ascendency as soon the goal came from Yusuf with a volley that beat goalkeeper Osagie Onisodumeya on 67 minute.
With the win, Kennedy Boboye's side now have 39 points same points as Bayelsa United who are 16th on the log while Rivers United remain 11 with 41 points.
Rivers United play Abia Warriors next in one of their final stretch of rescheduled matches in the NPFL.
