Rivers United got an important win at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Wednesday as they defeated Enugu Rangers in an Nigeria Premier Football League match day 8 reschedule game, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The defending champions edged the Flying Antelopes by a goal to nil to close the gap between them and group B leaders, Lobi Stars.

A solitary goal by in form midfield maestro, Nyima Nwagua in the second half ensured the win for the Pride of Rivers.

The home side dominated proceedings in the first 45 minutes, but there was nothing to choose between the two sides after resolute defending by the visitors.

Nwagua finally broke the deadlock in the 64th minutes with a lovely chip facilitated by Paul Acquah.

They held on to the lead till the end to earn all points which keep them second with 18 points, a point adrift of Lobi Stars after nine matches.
