NPFL: Plateau United put Doma United to the sword as Remo Stars edge Akwa United
Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 29 openers saw Plateau United ease pass Doma United while Remo Stars earned a slim win over Akwa United on Saturday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Peace Boys walloped the Savannah Tigers 4-0 at the New Jos Township Stadium while Sky Blue Stars piped the Promise Keepers 2-1 at the Remo Stars Stadium.
A dominating early start was rewarded on 20 minute following a scramble from a corner kick, Onovo found space to slot the ball into the net.
15 minutes to the end of the first half, Barnabas Daniel made it two after the goalkeeper parried the ball, and he pounced on the loose ball from Sunday Anthony's free kick.
Anthony got his first goal of the season with a header, assisted by Daniel Itodo's throw-in 2 minutes into the second half before Bernard Mundi added the icing on the cake with a marvelous strike from 10 meters away from the yard after 90 minutes.
At Ikenne, Abayomi Adebayo gave Remo Stars the lead on 39 minute after bending home a free-kick lay off by Sodiq Ismail before Sikiru Alimi doubled the lead after converting from the spot after Dayo Ojo was brought down in the box at the dead of half time.
Gerome Heutchou's fierce free kick came off the woodwork and hit goalkeeper Kayode Bankole before landing in the post on 46 minutes as Akwa United reduced th deficit.
The visitors could not get the equalizer at the end of the encouounter as it ended 2-1.
Plateau United States 5th with 47 points while Remo Stars go 2nd with 49 points after 29 matches and 28 matches respectively.
