Rivers United’s technical adviser, Finidi George, expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, stating they fully deserved their 3-1 victory over Heartland FC, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report.

The match played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Saturday handed Finidi George and his boys their first win of the season having drawn their first game of the season 0-0 at Bendel Insurance.

George commended his players for how they reacted after conceding an equalizer, highlighting their improved second-half performance. "It was a good game, we started with a high tempo and after that goal the tempo dropped and they (Heartland) started playing. Unfortunately, they got that goal, and we were furious about it, so we had to ginger the boys, especially in the second half," George said.

He further emphasized that the team’s adjustments in the second half allowed them to regain control of the game, with only a few threatening breaks from the opposition. "The second half was for us; they couldn't do much apart from one or two breaks they had; we controlled the game, and overall, we deserved to win."

George acknowledged that the squad is still relatively new but noted the players' progress in adapting to his tactical and technical guidance, signaling promising prospects for future matches.

They play Lobi Stars next in matchday 3 of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier League Season.
