Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Enyimba, picked their first away win of the campaign courtesy of a 1- 0 win against Akwa United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Sunday night. The win increased Enyimba coach Paul Aigbogun’s unbeaten run against Akwa United to three games. Both sides struggled to carve out clearcut chances in the opening exchanges with Enyimba winger, Joseph Osadiaye troubling the Promise Keepers defence. Enyimba went into lead through Christian Pyagabara in the 34th minute. The former Sharks forward, who missed a glorious chance for the Aba giants in midweek’s CAF Champions League hard earned win against Tunisian side, Etoile du Sahel, finished off a splendid counter attacking move by his side. The goal was his first for the Peoples Elephant in the NPFL this season. The visitors came close to increasing their lead through Peter Onyekachi a minute before the break, but the winger’s shot went off target. The hosts upped the tempo in the second half, but were unable to find a breakthrough. Enyimba were denied a blatant penalty in the 68th minute when Andrew Abalogu was brought down in the box. Ubong Ekpai came close to restoring parity in the game 12 minutes from time, but missed from close range. The Maurice Cooreman-led home side mounted pressure on the Enyimba’s defence in the closing stages of the game, but failed to find an equalizer.
