No Wembley action for Mane
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Senegal international Sadio Mane will miss Liverpool's Community Shield clash against Manchester City on 4th August.
The former Southampton striker has been involved in the Africa Cup of Nations and has only just begun his summer break following Senegal's 1-0 defeat to Algeria in the final of the tournament.
Klopp has given Mane an extended rest and he is not due to meet up with his team-mates for another fortnight.
The Community Shield is usually played between the winners of the Premier League and the FA Cup but as City won both trophies last season, as well as the League Cup, they will play Liverpool who finished second in the top-flight at Wembley.
Mane could feature in the opening Premier League game of the season against Norwich City or the UEFA Super Cup match against Chelsea, with Klopp saying: "He is in good shape.
"Obviously they had a celebration in Senegal and I'm happy about that because it showed that they respect the competition and saw the second place as a success, which is nice.
"He is now on holiday, not the longest one - he will be back on 5th August, after the Manchester City game. That means he has two weeks. There are four or five days to prepare for Norwich, 10 days for Chelsea [in the UEFA Super Cup]."
Liverpool are 6/5 to beat Manchester City at Wembley and lift the trophy while they are 9/4 to win the Premier League title in 2019/20.
