The Nigeria National League board has announced the prize money for the winners of the NNL Super 8 on Thursday, Nigerisoccernet.com can report.

The chairman of NNL, George Aluo disclosed at a press briefing at the NNL headquarters in Abuja that the sum of 5 million naira will be doled out to the 2023/2024 winner.

He stated that though it was not the money intended to be given to the winners, but he was happy the winners are getting prize money for the first time.

"Courtesy of our Insurance partners, the winners of this season's NNL will smile home with N5m. It can only get better because that's not the kind of money we intend to dole out to the champions but at least it's the first time the winners will get financial prize." The Chairman told journalists.

He continued, "The big one will be El-Kanemi versus Nasarawa United at the Cathedral, the Super 8 opener, these are two teams who got relegated last season, they played in the same conference, up against each other and will square up against each other in the opener.

"For the first time in the history of the NNL clubs were getting results on the road, the referees did their best in making sure that the best team won and few (referees) that were found wanting were shown the exit doors. In fact there was a particular week where seven referees were axed.

"In 356 games played in the regular season, 107 away wins were recorded, we had 88 draws and 225 home home victories. The above statistics shows improvement in the league because we have not had it so good in the past. A total of 764 goals scored with average of 2 goals per match.

"The Super 8 will now hold from June 7-14th.

"We are set for Super 8 and everything has been put in place. The matches will be streamed live and the largest radio network in Africa, Radio Nigeria will run live commentary.

The best goalkeeper, Most Valuable Player, and the Highest Goal scorer and Best Referee will receive awards. He concluded."
