It was a total jubilation galore after the final whistle for Abia Comets Football of Umuahia after they came from behind to defeat Abeokuta Stormers 3-2 to secure first away victory of the season.

The encounter which was played at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne saw the Comets took an early lead through John Otomewo, who headed home a good throw-in by Micah Onukwue to make it 1-0 inside four minutes.

The host, Stormers SC leveled it 1-1 from the spot before they doubled it 2-1 in the 28th minute after a mic up by the Comets defence which resulted in the goal. The host went into the half time break with a 2-1 lead, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports as gathered through the club's media.

In the second half, a different Abia Comets side came alive in the game, when the technical crew brought in the likes of Ebuka Lazarus, Maduka Emeka, Oscar Nwaimo, Okere Daniel and Ikenna Ogu which helped to change the narrative of the game in a brilliant fashion.

Ebube Lazarus went in on a brilliant individual run from the box as he striked one of the best goals of the season to levell it 2-2 for Comets in the 84th minutes.

However, the visitors continued to pressed on for a match winner and finally succeeded when Maduka Emeka produced a brilliant individual run to slot in a through pass to Okere Daniel,  the pacy forward slotted it home to give Comets the third goal in the 88th minute.

It was a total team jubilation at the final whistle as Abia Comets secured It's first away victory of the season.

Speaking with the Abia Comets Media, shortly after the encounter Comets defender Benjamin IIuyomade praised the performance of the team as he dedicated the victory to the birth of his new baby.

"I want to celebrate the whole team because the hard work and pressure before the match was on us to deliver. It was a solid performance by the team."

"However, I want to dedicate the victory to the birth of my new baby", he told Abia Comets Media.

With the victory, Abia Comets FC have gained six points in the first six games of the season with four of the games been on the road.

The Comets will be back in action with a home encounter against Lagos based club, 1472 FC, on January 6th, 2024, following the resumption after the Christmas and New year celebrations.
