Nigeria is now four points off the top spot in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers following South Africa’s and Rwanda’s victory on on Tuesday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Super Eagles heartbreak started with a shocking 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic on Monday but more pronounced on Tuesday when teams in same group got a meaningful results.

South Africa’s Bafana Bafana who last week left Uyo, Nigeria with a point defeated  Zimbabwe 3-1 with Thapelo Morena getting a brace.

Adding to Nigeria’s uphill task is Rwanda who emerged victorious with a 1-0 win at Lesotho.

With these outcomes the current standings in Group C are as follows:

- Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin are joint leaders with seven points each - Lesotho occupies the fourth spot with five points - Nigeria trails behind in fifth place with three points

The next World Cup qualifiers come up in March 2025 and Nigeria’s upcoming matches will be crucial in determining their fate.
