The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Thursday announced the Super Eagles squad that will represent the country at the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to kick off in Morocco later this month, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The list, released after weeks of anticipation from fans and analysts, features a blend of established stars and in-form newcomers who have impressed for club and country.

According to the NFF, the final squad was selected after careful assessment of current fitness levels, tactical suitability, and overall team balance.

The squad announcement reflects a blend of seasoned internationals and emerging talents as Nigeria prepares to compete in Group C alongside Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda.

“We believe this squad balances experience with dynamism, and we are confident in this group’s ability to compete at the highest level,” coach Chelle said in a statement released by the NFF.

One of the most notable inclusions is goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who keeps his place despite recent fitness concerns. Veteran keeper Francis Uzoho also returns after impressing at club level, forming a competitive goalkeeping trio with Amas Obasogie.

In attack, captain and talisman Victor Osimhen leads the forward line, flanked by the pace and creativity of Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze and and Moses Simon. Former Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu, making a return to the national team, adds aerial threat and experience up front.

The squad also features exciting newcomers such as Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, Tochukwu Nnadi, Usman Muhammed, and Salim Fago Lawal, all handed their first AFCON call-ups.

Nevertheless, Several established internationals miss out on the final cut, with Maduka Okoye, Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Boniface, and among the surprising absentees after strong club seasons.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to begin preparations immediately, with a possible warm-up friendly against Egypt on 16 December 2025 ahead of their AFCON campaign.

Nigeria’s AFCON journey will begin against Tanzania on 23 December, followed by matches against Tunisia and Uganda as they seek their fourth continental title.
