Niger Tornadoes hand Baba Ganaru defeat on return to Lobi
It was not a good start for Lobi Stars' new coach, Baba Ganaru who returned to the Markurdi club to a defeat at home following a 0-2 loss to Niger Tornadoes in the Nigeria Premier Football League on Wednesday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Goals from Victor Okoro and Daniel Akanbek in both halves of the game were all the Solid Miners needed to get maximum points at the Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi.
The encounter started quite slow with both sides playing to caution to see how to get the first attempt. By the 17 minutes of action, the tempo had gone up with the two sides pushing for a goal.
After the half-hour mark, it was still goalless, and at a point,t the thought of the first half ending goalless will come Daniel Akanbek broke the deadlock for the visitors with a low shot after one minute of additional time.
As expected, the hosts came out seeking the equaliser to the goal conceded in the first half, but it was the team Minna that scored the second goal to make it 0-2 through Okoro who headed home a cross from Abba Khalid in the 66 minutes.
Niger Tornadoes remained composed and disciplined at the back while trying to score another in the 78th minute after Akanbek with a chance following a pass from Mendos which he drove forward and released a shot but the goalkeeper made a good save.
It remained 0-2 at the end of the final whistle as Niger Tornadoes secured a fourth win on the road while Lobi Stars survival hopes continue to shrink.
