After the 34th Africa Cup of Nations concludes, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will have an emergency meeting to decide whether to extend Jose Peseiro's contract with the Super Eagles or permit him to depart.

This was revealed by a board member who asked to remain anonymous claimed that Peseiro is not the proper coach to guide the squad to success based on how Sunday's loss was handled as gathered by Nigeriasoccernet.com through the Guardian reporter.

As per the terms of his contract, Peseiro's initial term was extended till after the AFCON. If the tournament had taken place from January to February of 2023 as planned, Peseiro's initial term would have expired last year.

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau had informed the media that the Portuguese player's contract would not be renewed regardless of the results of the 2023 AFCON.

However, after the national team unexpectedly advanced to the competition's final, some board members of the federation began advocating for the Portuguese continued stay.
