Newcastle consider loan exit for record signing Nick Woltemade amid Juventus interest

Juventus are in talks with Newcastle United over a potential loan move for Nick Woltemade, only a year after the German forward became the club’s record signing.

Newcastle United paid a reported £69m to beat Bayern Munich to Woltemade’s signature last summer, bringing the 24-year-old to St James’ Park in a deal that established a new club record.

The forward made an excellent start to life at Newcastle United, but his form later declined. He finished the 2025-26 season with 11 goals and four assists from 51 appearances.

Woltemade’s position at the club has now become less secure following a change in the dugout. Matthias Jaissle is in charge after Eddie Howe’s surprise resignation, and the German has subsequently fallen down the pecking order.

According to The Athletic, Juventus are attempting to persuade Newcastle United to let Woltemade leave on loan. The Serie A club are understood to see a temporary move as a possible way to bring the forward to Turin.

The situation represents a change in Newcastle United’s position. Earlier in the summer, the club were understood to have no intention of allowing Woltemade to depart, but they are now prepared to consider a loan arrangement.

Juventus’ interest has emerged as they prepare for the expected departure of Canadian striker Jonathan David, who looks set to join Atletico de Madrid on loan.

Woltemade’s first season at Newcastle United began with considerable promise after the club invested a reported £69m to secure his services from Bayern Munich. However, the reduction in his form, combined with the arrival of Jaissle, has changed the circumstances surrounding his future.

The German now faces uncertainty over his immediate role under Newcastle United’s new manager. A move to Juventus would give him the opportunity to continue playing at a major European club while potentially allowing Newcastle United to reassess his position at the end of the loan spell.

For Juventus, the proposed deal would provide a possible replacement option after David’s likely departure. The club are therefore exploring whether Newcastle United will agree to release Woltemade temporarily, rather than pursuing a permanent transfer for the player who cost the Premier League club a record fee last summer.

No agreement has yet been confirmed, but talks between Juventus and Newcastle United are under way.
