Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 111th goal for Portugal on Wednesday, making him the all-time leading scorer in international soccer.
In a World Cup qualifier against Ireland, the Portugal captain scored in the 89th and 90+6th minutes, putting him ahead of former Iranian scorer Ali Daei. He had a penalty saved in the 15th minute earlier in the game.
Ronaldo, 36, was playing in his 180th game for Portugal, having completed his return to Manchester United after leaving Juventus on Tuesday. The striker made his national team debut in 2003, and his record scoring streak began in a 2-1 loss to Greece in the group stage of the 2004 European Championship.
At Euro 2020, he equaled the previous mark of 109 set by Iranian legend Ali Daei. Christine Sinclair of Canada owns the women's record with a whopping 187 goals.
