Chris Wilder has been rewarded for guiding Sheffield United back to the Premier League after a 12-year absence with a new three-year contract.

The 51-year-old was named Blades boss in 2016 and has guided the club to two promotions in three seasons.

"Chris signing a new contract underpins everything we are attempting to do," said chief executive Stephen Bettis.

"He's been the catalyst for our success over the past few years."

Earlier in his managerial career Wilder led Oxford United to promotion to League Two in 2010 before being in charge when Northampton Town moved up to League One in 2016.

Bettis added: "On behalf of the board, I'm delighted that the formalities have been concluded and Chris has been rewarded. He is a driven individual and his focus since promotion was secured has been preparing the club for the Premier League."

Sheffield United can be backed at 6/5 not to be relegated from the top-flight this season while they are available at 14/5 to beat Bournemouth in their opening fixture on 10th August.

Since the end of last term, Wilder has signed Luke Freeman from QPR and brought Phil Jagielka back to Bramall Lane while Paul Coutts, Martin Cranie, Daniel Lafferty, Caolan Lavery and Conor Washington have all left the club.
