Napoli open talks with Gavi representatives over possible January move from Barcelona
Napoli are reportedly in discussions with Gavi’s representatives over a potential January transfer for the Barcelona midfielder.
The Serie A club are hoping to take advantage of uncertainty surrounding the 22-year-old, who is no longer regarded as ‘untouchable’ by Barcelona, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, via GOAL.
Gavi’s progress under Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has been affected by two serious injuries since the start of his career with the club.
He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia, an injury which kept him out for roughly 11 months. The midfielder subsequently suffered damage to the medial meniscus in the same knee and was sidelined for another five.
He has made 21 appearances in all competitions during the past two seasons under Flick.
Napoli are understood to view the situation as an opportunity to bring the Spain midfielder to Italy, with talks with his representatives already under way ahead of the January transfer window.
Manchester United also attempted to sign Gavi during the summer, but their approach was swiftly rejected by the player.
