Napoli director, Mauro Moliso, has conceded that the Serie A club made an error in not selling Victor Osimhen last summer, despite significant interest from top European teams, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Osimhen's impressive performances in the 2022/23 season, which included 26 goals in 32 league appearances, sparked widespread interest in the striker.

However, Napoli in trying to keep the lanky forward and increase his valuation from €70m extend his contract by two years in December with a €130m release clause.

Moliso now acknowledges that this decision may have been misguided, as the high release clause has deterred potential suitors, leaving Osimhen's future uncertain.

"We made some mistakes in Osimhen’s management. I arrived in Naples in mid-July and I knew that there had been a very high offer from one of the biggest teams in Europe. In hindsight, we are all good, but perhaps we could have sold him,” Moliso told Sportitalia via Corriere dello Sport.

Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Chelsea are the clubs in contention for the African footballer of the year.
