Nabbout makes Victory move
Melbourne Victory have signed their second Australia international in the space of three days as Andrew Nabbout has returned to the club where he started his career.
The 26-year-old, who has been one of the key targets for new Victory coach Marco Kurz, follows Robbie Kruse into the club.
He was a product of Victory's youth team and made 46 appearances across all competitions for the club between 2012 and 2015, before joining Malaysian Premier League side Negeri Sembilan.
That proved to be a short stint and he had success with Newcastle Jets after returning to Australia.
Nabbout joined Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds last year for a fee of around $500,000 and broke into the Socceroos squad ahead of World Cup 2018bin Russia.
He said: "From a football perspective, I just can't wait to play. The club's expectations are clear in wanting to achieve success - I expect nothing less from Victory and I'm very excited to be given the chance to work towards that."
Kurz said of Nabbout, who has earned nine caps for Australia: "Andrew is a talented attacker who has experience in the J-League, national team and as we know, previously in the A-League.
"It's important to find players that complement the squad in an on-pitch sense, but also ones who fit culturally - Andrew, as a former player at Victory, is another one who meets that brief."
At least two other A-League clubs are understood to have been chasing Nabbout, who has struggled for consistent first-team football in the J-League.
Melbourne Victory are 5/1 to win the 2020 Grand Final and 16/5 to win the FFA Cup.
