FC Copenhagen stated on Tuesday that midfielder Akinkunmi Amoo suffered an injury during preseason training in the Netherlands and would be out for an unknown period of time.

“Akinkunmi Amoo, unfortunately, suffered an injury early during training camp in the Netherlands, so he did not participate in the two training matches against Feyenoord and Club Brugge, and he is still out in the coming period,” the club wrote on their website.

“The 20-year-old Nigerian played 45 minutes of the training match against Silkeborg on 27 June and is now retraining at Number 10 together with the health staff.”

Amoo has now shed some insight on his fitness concerns, easing fears that he could be set for a long spell on the sidelines.

“Yes, I sustained a slight thigh injury while training for my club, but it is not as serious as media outlets are reporting it,” Amoo said.

“My club did not list me for the games against Feyenoord and Club Brugge because they don’t want to aggravate it. I have since commenced training with Copenhagen and anytime from now, I will be joining the team to continue preparations for the 2022-23 season.”

Amoo left Sweden’s Hammarby IF in January and signed a five-year contract with FC Copenhagen. He played twice for Copenhagen in the second half of the previous season, although injuries caused him to miss the remaining games of the campaign.

The attacking midfielder would be aiming to put his fitness issues behind him once and for all as he prepares for what will be a very important season
