Mulvey plans to replace McCormack
Central Coast will be "active" in the transfer window, coach Mike Mulvey said after watching the Mariners slump to their ninth consecutive defeat.
The Mariners lost 5-2 at Jubilee Oval to Sydney FC and have only picked up two points in their opening 11 games.
Mulvey's side led the Sky Blues until the start of the second half, despite having Kalifa Cisse sent off.
They shipped five goals in the half, including a hat-trick to Alex Brosque, making it nine goals conceded in the space of five days.
The club confirmed hours after their loss that striker Ross McCormack had played his last game for them after being recalled by parent club Aston Villa.
McCormack, who scored one goal in five games, said in a statement: "The opportunity for me to return to the UK is something that I couldn't turn down and will allow me to see my children more, which is something that is very important to me."
The confirmation of his departure came after Mulvey spoke to the media about the Sky Blues defeat.
At the time he was pressed on whether he would be signing a replacement for the Scotland international, saying: "Yes, we will be active ... there'll be something happening in the next few days."
The pre-season at the Gosford club was dominated by the sideshow of Usain Bolt's trial, which did not end in him signing a contract.
Things brightened up when McCormack was signed on the eve of the season.
The campaign itself got off to a reasonable point with back-to-back draws, but the Mariners haven't picked up a single point since round two.
Mulvey said after the Jubilee Oval loss: "I think you guys (the media) need to be fair and have a look at the performances and say, 'these guys are still playing'.
"They're having a go; they're giving as much as they possibly can."
Meanwhile, Australia are 13/2 to win the Asian Cup.
