Mozambique strike in added time to draw Senegal level in Afcon 2027 qualifier

Mozambique came from behind to draw 1-1 with Senegal at half-time in the opening matchday of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign in Group J.

Senegal controlled the first half, enjoying 63% possession and creating the early pressure. Their dominance was rewarded in the 32nd minute when Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring after being set up by Abdallah Sima.

The visitors appeared set to take their lead into the interval, but Mozambique found an equaliser in the second minute of added time. Geny Catamo scored in the 45th+2 minute to ensure the teams went into the dressing rooms level.

Mozambique also received two yellow cards during a fiercely contested opening 45 minutes.

The second half is expected to bring further intensity as both sides look to secure valuable points and make a positive start to their qualifying campaign.
