Newcastle Jets have handed goalkeeper Glen Moss a new contract at the age of 36.

The veteran will stay with the club for the 2019/20 campaign, having performed well since he was brought in by coach Ernie Merrick in July 2017.

The Scottish-born coach had worked with Moss previously - at both Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix.

Moss was Newcastle's understudy last season before replacing Jack Duncan for the club's Finals Series campaign after Duncan picked up a quad injury.

Former New Zealand international Moss has played 16 of the Jets' 20 games this season, with Duncan having been sold last July to Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah for around $450,000.

Moss followed Merrick from Wellington to the Hunter and the coach said of him: "I've coached him at three different clubs now and he has a real calming presence on the group.

"It's good to have him locked in ... he's playing some of his best football at age 36 and he's been very impressive this season."

Moss is now in the top 20 of all-time A-League appearance makers and, having signed a new deal, should reach the 250-games mark next season.

Newcastle Jets are 50/1 to win the Grand Final.

Meanwhile, Western Sydney have lost midfielder Jordan O'Doherty for the rest of the season. The Spanish-born 21-year-old injured his ACL in the first half of the club's 1-1 draw against Perth Glory at the weekend.

O'Doherty, who joined on a three-year deal last June, said: "This (injury) will spur me on to get back stronger than I've ever been before. I'm absolutely gutted that I'm going to miss so much football but the road to recovery and hard work starts now."

Western Sydney are 11/8 to win their next game against Brisbane Roar, who are 13/8 with the draw 14/5.
