Morocco make it two wins in CAN 2027 qualifying with 2-0 victory over Lesotho

Morocco continued their winning start to the CAN 2027 qualifiers by beating Lesotho 2-0, although they had to wait until the closing stages to secure the points.

The Atlas Lions created several chances early on but were unable to break the deadlock until the 45th minute. Brahim Diaz gave them the lead with a left-footed finish after finding himself in a favourable position.

Walid Regragui’s side therefore went into half-time with a narrow advantage, but continued to threaten after the interval.

Diaz had the opportunity to double Morocco’s lead from the penalty spot in the 64th minute, only for his effort to be saved. Azzedine Ounahi was also denied in the 79th minute when the Lesotho goalkeeper kept out his shot.

Ounahi did not have to wait long for another chance, however, and made it count three minutes later. The Morocco midfielder struck with his right foot in the 82nd minute after being set up by Soufiane Rahimi.

Morocco managed the remainder of the match and held on for a 2-0 win, despite Lesotho making several attempts to reduce the deficit in the final minutes.

The result gives the Atlas Lions their second victory of the CAN 2027 qualifying campaign.
