Morocco begin CAN 2027 qualifying with controlled win over Gabon

Morocco made a confident start to their CAN 2027 qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over Gabon in their opening Group A match.

The Lions of the Atlas controlled the contest from the outset, setting the tempo and limiting Gabon’s opportunities to impose themselves on the game.

Their pressure was rewarded in the 36th minute when Noussair Mazraoui broke the deadlock, giving Morocco a deserved lead before half-time.

Gabon attempted to respond after the interval and looked for a way back into the match, but Morocco’s defence remained organised and composed.

The hosts then secured the points six minutes from time. Soufiane Rahimi found the net in the 84th minute to double Morocco’s advantage and settle the outcome.

The 2-0 result gives Morocco three points from their first Group A fixture and provides a positive opening to their bid to qualify for CAN 2027.
