Monterrey reportedly linked with Mexican international defender

After watching fierce rivals Tigres sign high-profile French midfielder Florian Thauvin as well as manager Miguel Herrera, Monterrey is now looking to respond with a high caliber signing of their own.
According to a report by Mediotiempo, Rayados' top of the transfer list consists of Mexican international defender Nestor Araujo, currently playing at Celta de Vigo in Spain. Chivas is also keen on him as well as fellow National team teammate Hector Moreno to reinforce their defense. Reportedly, Monterrey has already made an official offer to Celta for the player, but details remain undisclosed. Araujo has a $1.2M salary and still believes he can keep playing in Europe, so it will be difficult to convince the player to come back to Mexico.
Monterrey saw defenders Nico Sanchez and Adrian Mora leave the club recently, so it would make sense for them to go after a centre-back, whether Araujo will accept Rayados offer remains to be seen.
