MLS Returns on Saturday
After taking time off from regular MLS play for the fourth and fifth rounds of the US Open Cup, it is time for league play to return.
Saturday there are five games on the slate with seven of the 12 teams in the Western Conference returning to action. The LA Galaxy trail LAFC by nine points in the standings and will travel to The Queen City to take on FC Cincinnati.
The Galaxy have been poor in recent weeks, generally losing to teams that they should beat in the Portland Timbers in the US Open Cup and the New England Revolution and Colorado Rapids in MLS play.
The Rapids and the Timbers are the two bottom teams in the Western Conference while the Revolution and Saturday's opponent, FC Cincinnati, are the two bottom teams propping up the Eastern Conference standings.
Saturday the Houston Dynamo returns their focus to the regular campaign after failing to defend their title in the US Open Cup.
Houston sits in fourth place in the Western Conference with 24 points, four behind the Galaxy and two adrift of the Seattle Sounders.
However the Dynamo have played three games less than the Galaxy, Sounders and LAFC and could potentially leap into second place were they to win their games in hand.
Houston is in Portland to play the Timbers and faces a Portland side that crushed the Galaxy 4-0 in the US Open Cup. The two teams drew 1-1 earlier in the season in Houston as part of Portland's marathon road trip to start the season.
LA Galaxy are priced at 9/1 to win the MLS Cup with DC United 12/1 and LAFC 9/4.
