Mikel Obi to join Dream Team squad for upcoming Olympic games
Chelsea midfielder John-Obi Mikel, will be one of Nigeria's over-age players at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, according to his representative.
The midfield maestro is considered to be one of the finest talents in the country, with his experience being a key factor in his inclusion in the squad set to contest the continental showpiece in August.
Prior to be being named as the captain of the Nigerian football team, the former Manchester United man turned down the opportunity to represent Nigeria's U23 side in the Olympics, and was said to be on the brink of hanging up his boots.
"Mikel is eager to play for Nigeria at the Olympic Games in Rio. He has confirmed that he will travel to Brazil with the Dream Team," Mikel's representative told allnigeriasoccer.
"He could not feature in the Joseph Yobo Testimonial because he had already planned his vacation before he was contacted."
If Mikel features when the Nigeria U23's face Japan, he will join a select group of players to have played in the five major tournaments organized by FIFA.
The 29-year-old represented Nigeria at the 2003 U17 World Cup, 2005 U20 World Cup, 2013 Confederations Cup as well as the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
