Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is adamant his side have the ability and the mentality to avoid relegation from the Premier League next season.

The West Midlands outfit secure their place back at the top table of English football after beating Derby County in the Championship playoff final last season.

McGinn played a key role in getting Villa back to the Premier League and now the Scotland international feels his side will be able to cope with the step up in class.

"I think we just need to take it the same way we did last year," McGinn told Sky Sports.

"We took it on a week by week basis and ended up doing well. Obviously, by the size of the club, people will expect us to stay up but it's not gonna be as easy as that. We're just going to try and press early on, get results on the board and see what we can do.

"It's a massive jump for us but we know we're capable of competing and hopefully we can start showing that."

Villa are 9/4 to be relegated from the Premier League, while they are 4/1 to finish in the top half of the table.
