Mbeumo leads Cameroon’s new captaincy order for CAN 2027 qualifiers

Cameroon have appointed Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo as captain ahead of their opening Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying match against Comoros on Thursday.

Head coach David Pagou confirmed the new leadership structure during the squad’s first gathering since Frank Zambo-Anguissa retired from international football.

Mbeumo takes over the armband after the Indomitable Lions had been without a captain following Zambo-Anguissa’s retirement.

Arthur Avom has been named first vice-captain and will deputise for Mbeumo, while Samuel Kotto has been selected as the second vice-captain.

The appointments establish a new hierarchy within the Cameroon squad as they begin their campaign to qualify for CAN 2027.

The Indomitable Lions will return to play in front of their home supporters when they face Comoros on Thursday, with the team targeting a winning start to the qualifying programme.
