Max Allegri banned for two matches after Napoli’s Roma draw
Napoli coach Max Allegri has been suspended for two matches and fined €10,000 ($11,200) after being sent off during Saturday’s 3-3 home draw with AS Roma.
Serie A’s sports judge said Allegri had made an abusive remark towards match officials and later behaved aggressively towards an official from the opposing team.
The ban means Allegri will miss Napoli’s Serie A match at Monza on Wednesday and their home fixture against Juventus on Sunday. Napoli, who are 10th in the table, have won only one of their past four league matches.
The club said it would appeal against the decision.
Allegri was dismissed shortly after Leonardo Balerdi scored a late equaliser for Roma. The Napoli coach believed a foul had been committed during the build-up and reacted angrily after video assistant referee officials allowed the goal to stand.
The disciplinary authority said Allegri’s initial offence involved an “abusive remark towards the match officials”. It added that he later “adopted an aggressive attitude towards an official of the opposing team” in the changing room.
The sports judge said the incidents had been reported by the fourth official, Juan Luca Sacchi, and referee Andrea Colombo, as well as officials from the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.
“Offences (were) noted by the fourth official (Juan Luca Sacchi) and the referee (Andrea Colombo), and the latter by officials from the Federal Prosecutor’s Office,” the decision stated.
Allegri denied abusing the officials in a post-match interview with DAZN Italia.
“The fourth official called the referee and got me sent off, but I said absolutely nothing,” he said.
