Match Report: Hearts of Oak 3-2 Berekum Chelsea - Emmanuel Hayford's beauty propels Phobians close to top-four
Accra Hearts of Oak moved closer to the top-four spot after posting a 3-2 victory over Berekum Chelsea in an entertainment-drought encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
Thomas Abbey fired Eddie Ansah's men ahead in the 67th minute but Kofi Owusu drew parity for the Blues 73rd minute.
Emmanuel Hayford responded with a patent strike in the 74th minute before Robin Gnagne converted an Isaac Mensah penalty five minutes later.
Kofi Owusu then grabbed a brace on the afternoon with a 82nd minute goal.
Hearts stretched the Blues winless run to five games in the league following their losses against Great Olympics at the same venue among others.
It was a game striker Kofi Owusu used to improve his chances of winning the league's top-scorer award after netting a double to take his tally to 17.
Thomas Abbey shot Hearts upfront 22 minutes into the second-half following a pulsating goalless stalemate in the opening 45 minutes.
But it just six minutes after Abbey's opener, Kofi Owusu cut celebrations short by leveling the scoring for the Blues three minutes later.
Emmanuel Hayford grabbed his second goal of the season for the Phobians after restoring their lead with a trademark finish from the edge of the area.
Hearts failed to take their feet off the pedal after Isaac Mensah won a penalty in the 79th minute. Captain Robin Gnagne stepped up and made amends for the penalty miss against Kotoko by sending the Chelsea keeper the wrong way.
But Owusu netted his second goal of the afternoon by brilliantly finishing from the edge of the area to move within a goal in reach of Nathaniel Asamoah who has scored 18 times.
