AshantiGold SC made a firm statement about their league title ambitions with a 1-0 victory over Aduana Stars at the Len Clay Stadium in the First Capital Plus Premier League on Sunday.

Attacker Yakubu Mohammed, who had medicals with a Moroccan side ahead of a proposed transfer, claimed the maximum points for Bashir Hayford's men when he slammed home a thunderous half-volley from just outside of the area.

Aduana fought strongly to equalise from the game but Lawrence Lartey and his defensive compatriots defended steadily to ensure they ended the game with all three points at stake.

After last week’s loss to Hasaacas who defeated Hearts of Oak in Accra, table the toppers hoped to return to their winning habits in a big match against the second-placed Aduana, who were also riding at the back of Brong Ahafo clubs impressive record at Obuasi.

But after a halve of hostile exchanges, Mohammed hammered home a trademark powerful drive from the edge of the area to seal victory for AshantiGold who have now increased their points tally to 40.
