Marwane Saadane faces medical tests after Hamdallah incident in Saudi Pro League

Marwane Saadane was taken from the pitch on a stretcher after an accidental clash with Morocco team-mate Abderrazak Hamdallah during Al-Fateh’s Saudi Pro League match against Al-Taawoun.

The Al-Fateh defender suffered the injury shortly before half-time after Hamdallah fell onto his ankle while attempting to keep possession. Saadane immediately went to ground in obvious pain, prompting concern among the players, staff and supporters inside the stadium.

The incident occurred as Hamdallah tried to dribble past an opponent. The forward lost his balance and, unable to control his fall, landed with his full weight on Saadane’s lower leg.

Hamdallah quickly recognised the seriousness of the situation. Rather than continuing with the play, he stayed beside Saadane and called for both the referee and the medical team to come onto the pitch.

Saadane was eventually removed on a stretcher before the interval, with the nature of the injury not yet known. He is expected to undergo medical examinations and imaging to establish the extent of the damage and whether he will face a period on the sidelines.

No definitive diagnosis has been announced.

The injury is particularly frustrating for Saadane, who remains within the Morocco national team’s wider plans. He was part of the squad at the 2026 World Cup and was used as a replacement for Nayef Aguerd.

Although the images of the incident were alarming, there was no suggestion that Hamdallah had deliberately caused the injury. The former Al-Ittihad striker lost his footing while trying to retain the ball and fell awkwardly into Saadane.

Hamdallah’s immediate reaction underlined his concern for his compatriot. He turned towards the defender as soon as the contact happened and sought urgent assistance from the officials and medical staff.

The forward is often portrayed as a player with a fiery temperament, but his conduct during the incident was focused on Saadane’s condition. He remained close to the injured defender until help arrived.

Al-Fateh must now wait for the results of Saadane’s tests before learning how serious the problem is or how long the Morocco international might be unavailable.
