Marseille set unwanted Ligue 1 record after fourth successive defeat

Marseille have made the worst start to a Ligue 1 season in more than a decade after losing 2-1 to suffer a fourth consecutive defeat in the new campaign.

The Provence club have collected three points from their opening five matches. Their previous poorest start came in the 2011-12 season, when they also had three points after six games.

However, Marseille’s latest run represents an unwanted first in the club’s history: they had never previously lost four of their first five league matches.

Bruno Genesio now has plenty to consider as he looks to halt the team’s slide.

Marseille’s next Ligue 1 fixture is away to Troyes on 11 October.
