Maresca says Fernandes could also have seen red after Foden dismissal

Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca said Bruno Fernandes could also have been shown a red card after Phil Foden was sent off against Manchester United.

Foden was dismissed in the 23rd minute of the fourth-round Premier League match after a serious challenge on Fernandes. Manchester City went on to win 1-0 despite playing with 10 men.

“Bruno Fernandes could also have received a red card,” Maresca said when discussing the incident.

Former goalkeeper Paul Robinson had earlier offered his own view on Foden’s dismissal.

The match was settled by a goal from Erling Haaland in the 60th minute. The result leaves Manchester City second in the Premier League with 12 points.
