Manchester City owners face possible sanctions after financial case ruling

The owners of Manchester City could face serious sanctions following the decision of an independent commission into alleged financial breaches by the club, the chairman of England’s Independent Football Regulator (IFR), David Kogan, has said.

The Premier League previously announced that Manchester City had been found guilty of all 115 charges relating to financial violations.

According to the commission’s findings, the club used fictitious contracts with commercial partners to artificially inflate its revenues and reduce its reported costs. The financial accounts were distorted by almost £900m between 2009 and 2018.

Manchester City has denied the allegations and said it is prepared to defend itself using every available means.
