Barcelona explored a move for Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol at the end of 2025, but the Croatia international did not want to leave the club, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona viewed Gvardiol as an ideal addition to strengthen their defence. However, the proposed transfer did not progress because Manchester City were unwilling to sell one of their key players, while Gvardiol himself was not looking to move away.

The 24-year-old subsequently extended his Manchester City contract in the summer, committing his future to the club until 2031.

Gvardiol has made seven appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side in all competitions this season. He has scored once and provided two assists.

The defender joined Manchester City from RB Leipzig in 2023 and has established himself as an important member of the squad, capable of playing both centrally and at left-back.

Transfermarkt values Gvardiol at 70 million euros.
