Manchester born Nigeria U23 international Tom Dele-Bashiru is in the plans of Watford new head coach Rob Edwards for the forthcoming season.

Although the central midfielder is attracting interest from unnamed Football League clubs, the Hornets have no intentions to sell or loan him out before the close of the summer transfer window as they see him as an important player in their quest to make an immediate return to the Premier League.

Edwards started running the rule over Dele-Bashiru this week as Watford started pre-season preparations at their training base in London Colney.

The Manchester City Academy product has returned to the Hornets after a successful loan spell at Reading, for whom he made 39 appearances in all competitions and was involved in seven goals (4 goals, 3 assists).

Dele-Bashiru has played just five games for Watford's first team since his arrival in the summer of 2019, mainly as a result of the serious injury he suffered in October 2020 that kept him out for the remainder of the season.

He is expected to travel with the Watford squad for a training camp in Austria from July 5-10.
