Riyad Mahrez scored the only goal of the game as Manchester City won 1-0 at Bournemouth to move back to the top of the Premier League.

The Algerian pounced to score on 55 minutes as City dominated the majority of the game at the Vitality Stadium and held on for the victory to move two points ahead of Liverpool, who play at Everton on Sunday.

Mahrez said: "We had to be very patient, we can always create chances. Be patient, move the ball quickly, we'll get space and score.

"It is always like this, when you play away and win by one, you think they might come back. But they didn't have too many chances to be honest. Perfect game for us.

"Liverpool are playing tomorrow. We'll see but a long way to go."

The win came at a cost to Pep Guardiola's side as they lost both Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones to injury.

In the battle for a fourth-placed finish Manchester United took full advantage of Arsenal being held to a 1-1 draw in the north London derby against Tottenham at Wembley earlier on Saturday by seeing off Southampton 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Aaron Ramsey put Arsenal ahead only for Harry Kane to level from the penalty spot on 74 minutes.

However, the Gunners were awarded a spot-kick in the final minute only for Hugo Lloris to deny Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and that point keeps Mauricio Pochettino's side securely in third.

In response, United went behind to Yann Valery’s long-range strike against Southampton.

However, quick-fire second-half goals from Andreas Pereira and Romelu Lukaku got United's noses in front only for James Ward-Prowse to level 15 minutes from time with a superb free-kick.

But United snatched the win two minutes from time through Lukaku's second of the game, while there was still time for Saints keeper Angus Gunn to save a Paul Pogba penalty in stoppage time.

The win moves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men a point ahead of Arsenal, while Chelsea are five points adrift of them in sixth but they have two games in hand.

Defeat for Southampton keeps them two points above the relegation places after third-bottom Cardiff were beaten 2-0 at Wolves and bottom club Huddersfield lost 1-0 at Brighton to remain 13 points off safety.

Burnley are not totally clear of relegation danger as they are just five points above the bottom three having lost 3-1 at home against Crystal Palace at Turf Moor.

Manchester City are now 1/2 to win the Premier League with Liverpool at 13/8, while Manchester United are 10/11 to secure a top-four finish, Arsenal are priced at 15/8 and Chelsea are available at 1/1.
