Maduka Okoye makes injury return amidst betting scandal
Udinese received a boost with the return of several players to training at the Bruseschi sports center. Among those returning was goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, who has been sidelined since early December with a wrist injury, Nigeriasocernet.com reports.
The Nigerian international rejoined his teammates in preparation for the upcoming match against Napoli. Also returning to training were Keinan Davis and Kingsley Ehizibue, both of whom had been recovering from injuries.
Reports indicate that Italian prosecutors are investigating claims that Okoye deliberately received a yellow card during Udinese's Serie A match against Lazio on March 11, 2024. The yellow card, issued in the 64th minute for time-wasting, apparently triggered an alert from betting company Sisal.
Their algorithm flagged unusual betting patterns specifically on that outcome. Despite the ongoing investigation, Okoye, who ranks among Serie A's top goalkeepers this season, remains eligible to play until any potential guilt is formally established.
