Liverpool’s Alisson Becker decision complicated by Mamardashvili succession plan

Liverpool have not opened discussions with Alisson Becker over a contract extension, with the Brazil goalkeeper’s current agreement running until the end of the 2026-27 season.

The situation was outlined by The Athletic journalist James Pearce on the Walk On podcast.

Alisson will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England from January. Juventus were previously reported to be interested in the goalkeeper, although no transfer progressed.

Liverpool’s planning is also affected by the presence of Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is viewed as a potential successor to Alisson.

According to Pearce, Mamardashvili would not want to spend a third consecutive season as a substitute.
