Liverpool are reportedly preparing an offer to bring Trent Alexander-Arnold back to Anfield on loan from Real Madrid, only months after the England international left his boyhood club.

Alexander-Arnold departed Liverpool in June 2025 when his contract expired and joined Real Madrid on a free transfer. His decision ended a long association with the club and angered supporters who believed he had betrayed Liverpool.

The defender was booed in May 2025 after announcing his departure, while a mural dedicated to him was defaced several times. He had also learned Spanish before his move to the Spanish giants was confirmed, a development which further increased the frustration among Liverpool fans.

His time at Real Madrid has proved difficult. Alexander-Arnold has struggled to establish himself under several managers and has found opportunities at right-back limited, with Jose Mourinho favouring Federico Valverde and Denzel Dumfries.

Mourinho has said he does not expect either Alexander-Arnold or Dumfries to ask to leave, despite both players receiving limited playing time.

However, Spanish outlet Cadena SER reports that Liverpool are now ready to make an offer to take Alexander-Arnold back on a temporary basis.

The 28-year-old has started only four LaLiga matches under Mourinho this season. He played just one minute in Real Madrid's El Clasico victory over Barcelona, before being given a rare opportunity in Sunday's LaLiga match against Racing Santander.

Mourinho explained that Alexander-Arnold's technical ability was important to Real Madrid's success in that game, despite the player's lack of recent match action.

"I involved Trent, who hadn't played matches for a while, because I saw that his technical quality would help us get the ball out.

"Despite being away from matches for a period, he delivered an excellent and balanced performance. I'm very happy, and I think the players feel that we're going through a good period."
