Liverpool considering renewed January approach for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh

Liverpool could revisit their interest in Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh during the January transfer window after failing to reach an agreement for the Gambia international in the summer.

The Reds made two offers for the 21-year-old, initially worth £50m and then £60m - figures equivalent to €58m and €70m. Brighton rejected both bids before setting their asking price at £80m (€93m).

A January move remains possible, according to Gambian journalist Foday Manneh, who is familiar with the situation. Speaking to Sport Witness, Manneh said the outcome could depend partly on Minteh's recovery from the injury that has kept him out of action following surgery.

Liverpool's attacking requirements could also change if Cody Gakpo leaves the club in January, Manneh added. Any decision to renew their pursuit of Minteh would therefore be influenced both by the winger's fitness and by developments within Arne Slot's squad.

Minteh's representatives have previously worked with British agency CAA Stellar in an effort to help discussions with Liverpool. That involvement means the transfer could regain momentum in the coming months, although no fresh offer from the Anfield club has been confirmed.

The player remains under contract with Brighton until 2029. His market value is listed at €45m by Transfermarkt, while his annual salary in England is reported to be €2,467,296, equivalent to 1,603,742,400 FCFA.

The possibility of Minteh moving to Liverpool has also been raised by Saintfiet, who said: “Minteh to Liverpool? It’s possible.”

Minteh joined Brighton after establishing himself as an important player for Gambia. His current absence means any potential January negotiations would take place while the winger continues his recovery from surgery.

Brighton's next fixture is against Sunderland in the sixth round of the English championship. The listed odds for the match are 2.30 for a Brighton win, 3.10 for a draw and 2.65 for a Sunderland victory.
